Muzaffarabad/Islamabad — Authorities have significantly reinforced security arrangements across Azad Jammu and Kashmir ahead of a major protest call issued by the Awami Action Committee (AAC) for June 9, with over 1,500 Islamabad Police personnel being dispatched to the region.
According to officials, Islamabad Police’s reserve force has also been placed on standby for immediate deployment. All personnel have been ordered to travel in full anti-riot gear as a precautionary measure. Surveillance has been heightened at sensitive locations and key entry points across the territory.
The Awami Action Committee, a coalition of civil society groups and political activists, has called the protest over unresolved public grievances including rising electricity tariffs and flour shortages. Authorities say the security buildup is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the protest remains peaceful.
The situation is being closely monitored by both regional and federal authorities.
