Ahead of US President Donald Trump’s arrival in Ankara for NATO’s 36th summit, a Palestinian flag was raised on a building directly across from the hotel where he is expected to stay. The symbolic move drew the attention of diplomatic and political circles, as well as global media, on the eve of the summit.
A large Palestinian flag was hoisted on a building directly opposite the JW Marriott Hotel, where Trump is expected to stay. Observers describe the act as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people. The development comes as world leaders converge on Ankara for the summit, scheduled for July 7–8.
Turkish authorities have put in place extremely strict security measures: heavy police deployment around the hotel, barricades at entry and exit points, thorough searches of vehicles and pedestrians, identity checks, and X-ray scanning.
It remains unclear who hoisted the flag, and there have been no reports of arrests. Turkish authorities have issued no official statement. Political observers note the incident comes as the Gaza war remains a central topic in global diplomacy, with Turkey consistently supporting the Palestinian position.
