Iran-backed Houthi fighters struck civilian and economic infrastructure in multiple Saudi cities — Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran — wounding at least 73 people, including women and children. The Financial Times reported that Saudi oil giant Aramco’s facilities in Jizan were also targeted, though Aramco declined to comment. In retaliation, the Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Al-Jawf area in Yemen’s Marib governorate. Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said the alliance would take all necessary military measures against the “terrorists.”
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks, warning of serious consequences if they continue, and called on the international community to ensure implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The Houthis have been attacking Saudi Arabia and blockading Red Sea shipping since declaring a naval blockade in July. Meanwhile, Russia has offered to mediate to ease the escalating tensions, an offer made by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a meeting in Moscow with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
