WASHINGTON — A new Quinnipiac University poll released ahead of the US midterm elections shows Americans increasingly sympathizing with Palestinians while criticizing President Donald Trump’s handling of key foreign policy issues. The poll found 38% of registered voters said their sympathies lay more with Palestinians, compared to 35% who favored Israelis, with 27% expressing no opinion — the highest level of sympathy for Palestinians and lowest for Israelis since Quinnipiac began asking the question in December 2001.
The poll also found 48% believe the US supports Israel too much, just 8% said support is insufficient, and 34% considered the level of support about right. Trump’s overall job approval stood at just 33%, with 59% disapproving. His foreign policy approval was similarly weak at 33% approve versus 60% disapprove, while only 29% approved of his handling of Iran, against 65% disapproval.
On US troop presence in Iran, 39% supported keeping forces there during peace negotiations, 30% favored withdrawal without a deal, and 22% wanted increased military action until Iran surrendered or agreed to a deal. Voters also gave Democrats an 11-point edge over Republicans in the race for House control, 49% to 38%.
