Thailand Floods Kill 23, Affect Over 2.6 Million; Uttar Pradesh Toll Reaches 81

BANGKOK,: Floods triggered by heavy rains in Thailand have killed 23 people and affected more than 2.6 million across 29 provinces and the capital Bangkok, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, as cited by The Nation.
The department’s latest report, issued at 6 am Tuesday, said floodwaters were present in 167 districts, 890 sub-districts and 5,077 villages, affecting 940,300 households. Water levels were rising in 14 provinces, stable in six provinces and Bangkok, and receding in nine others. Bangkok remained among the worst-hit areas, with days of heavy rain inundating roads and residential areas; authorities were draining water after the rain eased.
In India, the Times of India, citing the state relief commissioner’s office, reported that at least 81 people were killed and 62 injured in Uttar Pradesh between Sept 25 and 27. At least 2,254 houses were destroyed and 154 animals died, while crop losses were being assessed. The state received an average of 66.5 mm of rain in 48 hours against a normal of 7.6 mm, about 775 percent above normal. Very heavy rain was recorded in 56 of the state’s 75 districts.
Myanmar Now reported at least one death in Myanmar, with more than a dozen people missing in the southern Tanintharyi region.
