NEW YORK (International Desk): Actor and former UN refugee agency special envoy Angelina Jolie has shared before-and-after satellite images of Gaza on Instagram, highlighting the scale of destruction and calling on the international community to urgently help those affected.
“You can now open Google Earth and see what has been done to Gaza,” she wrote, adding that entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble. She said homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, and water and sanitation systems have been damaged or completely destroyed.
Citing a UN satellite analysis, Jolie said that as of June 16, 2026, 82 percent of buildings in Gaza had been damaged, with about two-thirds of the structures assessed completely destroyed.
She warned that before winter sets in, 1.98 million people, or 94 percent of Gaza’s population, need aid for shelter and basic essentials. She said the delivery of relief supplies and shelter materials continues to face restrictions and delays, and that humanitarian aid must reach civilians at the required scale.
Jolie noted that satellite images can show physical destruction but cannot capture the grief of families who have lost loved ones or the daily struggles of survivors. She called for conditions that allow civilians to rebuild their homes, schools, hospitals, and communities.
“The destruction is visible. The needs are known. What matters now is whether they are met,” she wrote.
Jolie previously visited Egypt on January 3, 2026, where she toured the Rafah crossing during a humanitarian visit.
