WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that only a Republican victory in the upcoming midterm elections can save the United States from bankruptcy.
Speaking to reporters, Trump reiterated that if the Republican Party wins control of both chambers of Congress in the November elections, every adult American citizen would receive a $5,000 dividend. “Democrats can’t do that, because they don’t impose tariffs, and so the country will go bankrupt,” he said.
Addressing a separate event in Baltimore on Tuesday, Trump claimed that if the Democratic Party wins, the American economy would face a severe depression on the scale of 1929.
The midterm elections will be held on November 3, when 33 Senate seats and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives will be up for election. Legislative elections will also be held in several states on the same day.
