US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that, just as India needs relations with Iran, the United States needs to maintain ties with Pakistan.
In an interview with India’s Network18, Rubio said Pakistan was a country Washington had to engage with because it possessed nuclear weapons and was geographically important. He added that the US opposed terrorism anywhere in the world and stood against any individual or country sponsoring it.
Rubio stressed that US engagement with Pakistan would not come at the expense of Washington’s relationship with India, saying diplomatic contact could help discourage actions that might lead to conflict.
