Islamabad,(International Desk) — Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Finance to open talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to arrange temporary relief on electricity bills for households in flood-affected areas.
Government sources said the proposal under consideration includes a one-month exemption from electricity charges, aimed at providing urgent assistance to both urban and rural populations impacted by recent flooding.
The development follows a call from opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who urged the government to waive power bills for farmers in disaster-hit regions. The Prime Minister, meanwhile, has declared an agricultural and climate emergency in response to the widespread devastation.
