LAHORE: A new chapter in regional connectivity began as a Centrum Air flight arrived in Lahore from Tashkent, marking the launch of a regular air link between the cultural hubs of Uzbekistan and Pakistan. The airline will operate two weekly flights between the two cities.
The development is being seen as a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity, linking South Asia with Central Asia and potentially extending access to Russia. The two cities, Lahore and Tashkent, are known for their rich histories and cultural heritage spanning centuries.
According to Tazeen Akhtar, Editor of Pakistan in the World International Media Group, the initiative reflects growing people-to-people contact and tourism between the two countries. He noted that the number of Pakistani tourists visiting Uzbekistan has increased rapidly, attributing the trend to the efforts of Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev and his team.
The recent visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has further accelerated bilateral cooperation, paving the way for enhanced economic and cultural ties.
The inaugural flight operated at full capacity in both directions, reflecting strong demand for direct connectivity. Officials present at the opening ceremony described the launch as a milestone, noting that just a year and a half ago, there were no direct flights between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, whereas currently six regular weekly flights are in operation.
The new route is expected to boost tourism, trade, and diplomatic engagement, further strengthening ties between the two brotherly nations and contributing to broader regional integration.
