PESHAWAR – Heavy rains and flash floods in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused massive destruction, leaving at least 358 people dead and 181 others injured, according to a report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The report stated that the victims include 287 men, 41 women, and 30 children, while among the injured are 144 men, 27 women, and 10 children.
The floods have also damaged 780 houses, of which 431 were partially and 349 completely destroyed.
Buner district has been the hardest hit, with 225 deaths recorded so far. Other affected districts include Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, and Swabi.
The Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rains between August 17 and 19, with the current monsoon spell likely to continue intermittently until August 21.
Authorities have directed district administrations to accelerate relief operations, while the Emergency Operations Center remains fully active. Citizens have been advised to contact the helpline 1700 for assistance and weather-related updates.
