Lahore – Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that the flood situation in the province is deteriorating, with heavy rains compounding the crisis as floodwaters spread across southern Punjab.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Bukhari reported that the floods have so far claimed 60 lives, while 4,335 villages and 4.2 million people have been affected. She added that nearly 1.8 million acres of agricultural land are under water, leading to rising prices of pulses and vegetables.
She said the government has taken exemplary measures in the face of this disaster, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to announce a major relief package. According to her, more than 2.1 million people and 1.55 million livestock have already been relocated to safer areas.
Bukhari further stated that anti-dengue spraying is being carried out in areas where mosquito complaints have been reported. She urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and avoid entering areas where water levels have started to recede without official clearance.
