LAHORE, Pakistan — The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) held its annual Sports Gala on Friday, bringing together faculty members and their families for a day of recreational and competitive activities. The opening ceremony was attended by Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, ASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, Secretary Dr Muhammad Islam, Chief Organizer Dr Aamir Masood Chishti, and other faculty members.
Addressing the event, VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized the importance of extracurricular and recreational opportunities for teachers, noting that such activities help enhance their well-being and professional performance. He added that teachers serve as “agents of change” in society and that a healthy teacher contributes significantly to the development of capable students. The VC even pledged to arrange additional recreational activities for faculty from his personal resources.
ASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi said the purpose of organizing the Sports Gala was to provide teachers with a “healthy, positive outlet” alongside their academic responsibilities. He noted that sports are just as essential as teaching and research in ensuring the overall well-being of educators.
The event featured multiple competitions, including badminton, table tennis, tug of war, and other sports. Free food stalls were also set up for faculty members and their families.
