New York: Police in New York City arrested approximately 100 protesters during a demonstration against US arms sales to Israel and potential military action against Iran.
The protesters blocked traffic in Manhattan to draw attention to their cause, causing significant disruption in the heart of the city. The protest was organized and led by the Jewish peace group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).
According to the organizers, those arrested included prominent figures, such as a well-known actress and a member of the New York City Council.
Hundreds of demonstrators initially attempted to stage a sit-in at the Manhattan offices of Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. The protesters demanded that the United States immediately halt arms shipments to Israel and refrain from any military escalation against Iran.
The protests come amid heightened US-Iran tensions and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
