Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward a four-point proposal to promote peace and stability in the Middle East during his meeting with UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday.
President Xi stressed that “the world must not be allowed to return to the ‘law of the jungle’. Might is not right, and the strong cannot bully the weak. International law and basic norms must be respected.”
The four-point proposal includes:
Adherence to the principle of peaceful coexistence — Countries in the region should resolve differences through dialogue and live together peacefully.
Full respect for national sovereignty — The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Gulf states, must be respected, with no interference in internal affairs.
Immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians as the top priority.
Building a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security architecture for the Middle East to promote regional cooperation and long-term stability.
Xi Jinping emphasized that the sovereignty of Gulf countries must be fully respected and that political and diplomatic solutions are the only way to resolve regional issues.
The proposal comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, including US-Iran tensions and ongoing conflicts. China has positioned itself as playing a constructive role in de-escalation and peace efforts in the region.
