Islamabad: In preparation for the possible second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, extraordinary security measures have been put in place across the federal capital Islamabad.
All routes leading to the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone have been completely sealed off. Heavy deployment of police, Rangers, FC, and other law enforcement personnel has been made on the main highways of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with strict checking at multiple pickets.
The Expressway from Korral to Zero Point has been closed for all kinds of traffic, while traffic on Srinagar Highway may also be suspended at different intervals.
Traffic Police stated that entry of heavy, commercial, and public transport is strictly prohibited in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Residents of G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 traveling to or from Rawalpindi should use the route via Margalla Road to Ninth Avenue.
In case Park Road to Club Road is closed, traffic will be diverted towards Tramri Chowk. The busy commercial hub Blue Area will remain partially open.
The Red Zone and Extended Red Zone will remain closed for all traffic; however, offices and business centers outside the Extended Red Zone will continue to operate normally.
Metro Bus service in the twin cities has also been fully suspended. Most educational institutions have shifted their classes to online mode for the next week.
