Beijing welcomes US-Iran ceasefire, urges Strait of Hormuz be reopened without delay
Beijing — China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong statement on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, declaring that an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire is indispensable for restoring peace and stability across the region.
In a statement released on social media, the Chinese foreign ministry said the conflict in Iran should never have begun, as the war has inflicted severe suffering not only on the Iranian people but on the entire region. Beijing warned that the repercussions of the conflict are already being felt across the global economy, international supply chains, cross-border trade, and worldwide energy supplies.
China welcomed the recently announced US-Iran ceasefire, calling it a positive step forward. “The door to negotiations has been opened — it must not be closed again,” the statement read. Beijing strongly urged all parties to pursue diplomacy and dialogue, emphasizing that the use of military force would prove to be a “dead end” with catastrophic consequences.
The ministry also called for the urgent restoration of Gulf maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the stability of global energy supplies and international trade depends on keeping these critical waterways open and secure.
China reaffirmed its commitment to playing a constructive role in bringing lasting peace to the Middle East through diplomatic engagement.
