LAHORE: On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique visited Faisalabad to review arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha sanitation and cleanliness operations.
During the visit, the provincial minister met Commissioner Faisalabad Musarrat Jabeen and reviewed facilities at cattle sale points while issuing necessary instructions to officials. Officers from other districts of the Faisalabad division also joined the briefing through video link at the Commissioner’s Office.
Addressing the meeting, Zeeshan Rafique said all departments must work together to ensure high standards of cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha in line with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said teams working under the “Suthra Punjab” campaign would use megaphones to collect animal waste and offal from streets and residential areas.
“Citizens should see the Suthra Punjab teams active in streets and neighbourhoods,” he said.
The minister directed authorities to accelerate the door-to-door distribution of waste bags for collecting sacrificial waste. He added that roads and collective sacrifice sites would be washed with lime, phenyl and rose water.
“We have to provide services beyond the expectations of the citizens and the Chief Minister,” he said.
Zeeshan Rafique further directed that union council secretaries in villages should be assigned specific areas and deployed in the field, while local government officers should also participate in monitoring duties. He also instructed authorities to deploy permanent Suthra Punjab teams in railway areas and along railway tracks.
During his visit, the minister toured Chowk Ghanta Ghar and nearby markets in Faisalabad, where he distributed eco-friendly waste bags among shopkeepers and citizens. He appealed to the public to cooperate with sanitation workers during Eid-ul-Azha and avoid dumping garbage in empty plots or canals.
Talking to the media, Zeeshan Rafique said that quality sanitation services would be ensured across Punjab on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He expressed satisfaction over the completion of Eid sanitation arrangements in Faisalabad division.
On the occasion, Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen said all possible measures were being taken in accordance with government instructions. She said control rooms had been activated in all four districts of the division and the sanitation operation would begin on the night before Eid.
“If any negligence is observed anywhere, strict action will be taken,” the commissioner warned.
