LAHORE: Pakistan has officially become the third country to join the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI) after the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) committed to establishing the initiative’s National Chapter.
The global manufacturer-led platform, jointly established by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), aims to promote sustainability, decarbonisation, and responsible manufacturing across the global apparel and textile industry.
The announcement was made during London Climate Action Week 2026, where industry leaders, global brands, investors, manufacturers, and development partners discussed climate finance and the sustainable transformation of the apparel sector.
Under the collaboration, PRGMEA and ATTI will jointly develop a Pakistan Transformation Plan focusing on decarbonisation, energy efficiency, water stewardship, climate finance, resource efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing. The initiative is expected to provide technical support and practical solutions, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while strengthening Pakistan’s competitiveness in global markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Ayyaz Uddin, Convener of the Decarbonisation Committee at PRGMEA, said Pakistan’s participation in ATTI represents a significant milestone for the country’s apparel industry and will accelerate sustainability, industry-wide collaboration, and compliance with evolving international market requirements.
Imran Salahuddin, Chairman (North Zone), PRGMEA, described the establishment of ATTI Pakistan as a major step forward for the country’s apparel sector. He said the partnership would enhance the competitiveness of Pakistani manufacturers by promoting sustainable manufacturing, innovation, and practical decarbonisation solutions, while reinforcing Pakistan’s position as a trusted and preferred sourcing destination in the global apparel market.
The establishment of ATTI Pakistan is also expected to strengthen collaboration among manufacturers, international brands, investors, and development partners, while improving access to technical expertise, climate finance, and innovative solutions to support the long-term transformation and competitiveness of Pakistan’s apparel and textile sector.
