CARACAS — The death toll from Venezuela’s devastating twin earthquakes has climbed to nearly 3,000, as the nation continues to grapple with widespread destruction. Amid the tragedy, football icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo sent emotional messages of solidarity to those affected.
The earthquakes struck Venezuela this month, killing thousands and causing massive damage to infrastructure across the country. Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, in a video message, said: “I want to send a message of love to all the people of Venezuela. We know the terrible ordeal they are going through right now, and I want us to show our full support — for all those suffering greatly, who cannot find their loved ones and face uncertainty about what lies ahead. Sending great encouragement to the people of Venezuela from here.”
Meanwhile, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo went a step further, sending a personal video message to a Venezuelan boy who had lost everything in the earthquake, inviting him to attend one of his matches. “I want you to come to one of my matches!” Ronaldo told the boy after watching a video about him.
