ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that war criminals belong in the dock, not on the podium of the United Nations, insisting that perpetrators of genocide must be held accountable before justice and history.
Speaking at the closing session of the 21st MUSIAD Expo International Trade Fair in Istanbul, Erdogan warned that failing to hold such perpetrators accountable would allow the same atrocities to recur. Reaffirming Turkey’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, he said the people of Gaza were “neither alone nor without support,” and that Turkey would continue to be a voice for the oppressed.
Erdogan praised delegates who walked out of the UN General Assembly hall as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu began his speech, saying the Assembly had thereby “answered the perpetrators of genocide.” He described the region as passing through a perfect storm of crises, while the global order remains deadlocked on questions of legitimacy, representation and justice.
Turning to the economy, Erdogan said Turkey had posted 24 consecutive quarters of growth and was now the world’s 16th and Europe’s sixth-largest economy, adding that the number of Turkish exporting companies had risen from 33,000 in 2002 to 168,000 in 2025.
