RIYADH: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye held an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense in Riyadh on 5 October 2026 to address security developments and threats facing the Kingdom, according to a joint statement.
As part of the Alliance’s institutional development, the Committee appointed Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (Ret.) of Pakistan as its first Secretary-General for a three-year term.
The three countries condemned in the strongest terms the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, as well as continuing attacks on cities and civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom, and rejected any attack or threat against its security and territorial integrity. Pakistan and Türkiye praised the vigilance, readiness and professionalism of the Saudi Armed Forces.
The Committee reviewed the outcomes of preceding political and military consultations and approved the recommendations submitted to it. It decided to move immediately to practical implementation of the collective defense commitments, including measures to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in the Kingdom. This will proceed in line with approved arrangements and the Parties’ national legislation.
The statement said the security of each Party is an integral part of the collective security of the three countries, and that putting the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense into practice shows the credibility of the commitment and strengthens deterrence.
