SAHIWAL: The University of Okara (UO) has formally launched its official web television channel, UO TV, aimed at providing students with practical experience in television production, broadcasting, reporting and digital content creation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubin inaugurated the regular transmission of UO TV at a ceremony attended by senior university officials and heads of various academic departments. Registrar Jamil Asim, Controller of Examinations Dr. Faisal Majeed and other faculty members were also present. A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to mark the launch of the new digital media initiative.
UO TV will operate under the Department of Media and Communication Studies (DMCS), providing students with hands-on opportunities to apply their academic knowledge in a professional media environment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubin appreciated Assistant Professor DMCS Dr. Zahid Bilal for spearheading the initiative. He said the web television channel would enable students to develop practical skills alongside their theoretical education.
The Vice Chancellor observed that electronic media had emerged as a powerful force in society, making practical training essential for students pursuing media and communication studies.
Dr. Zahid Bilal said students were highly enthusiastic about the launch and would have opportunities to learn both the technical and creative aspects of television production. He said the initiative had received strong support from the Vice Chancellor.
Initially, UO TV will broadcast four programmes every week, including a news bulletin, news reports, podcasts and a talk show.
The channel is expected to serve as a practical training platform for students while also providing the university with a dedicated digital forum to showcase its academic, research and institutional activities.
