ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan attended the International Khatm-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood) Conference at the Golra Sharif Shrine in Islamabad as the chief guest.
A large number of religious scholars, spiritual leaders and members of the public attended the conference.
Addressing the participants, Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said the conference reflected the deep love and devotion of Muslims towards the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said belief in the Finality of Prophethood was a fundamental part of the Muslim faith.
He stated that the chain of prophethood, beginning with Hazrat Adam (AS), culminated in Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the Seal of the Prophets. He also referred to legislation concerning the Finality of Prophethood enacted during the tenure of former prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
The governor said Islam promoted love, brotherhood and peace, adding that religious scholars played an important role in promoting peace and harmony. He stressed that unity, tolerance and mutual respect were essential for society.
Describing the Golra Sharif Shrine as a centre of spirituality, the governor said he held the shrine in deep reverence. He paid tribute to the religious services of Pir Meher Ali Shah, particularly his contributions to the cause of Khatm-e-Nabuwat.
The governor also recalled that during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tenure, constitutional legislation was enacted declaring Ahmadis non-Muslims under Pakistan’s Constitution. He further referred to the restrictions imposed on alcohol and the convening of the first Islamic Summit during Bhutto’s era.
