Washington: US Vice President JD Vance on Thursday ruled out the prospect of a long and endless war with Iran, expressing confidence that President Donald Trump would achieve the objectives set by his administration. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Vance said, “There’s a lot more we need to work on, but the one thing I’ll tell you is, if you’re worried about another forever war, Donald Trump is never going to let this be a forever war.”
He drew a distinction between criticising US military interventions abroad and insisting that “the American military can never be used.” Vance added, “He’s going to accomplish America’s objectives, and then we’re going to focus on the other things that we’re doing.” His remarks came amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States.
It may be recalled that the conflict between the two countries began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran. In response, Tehran targeted Israeli and US positions in Arab countries.
In June, the United States and Iran signed a framework agreement, after which negotiations began between the two countries. However, the talks later collapsed due to differences over freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for the global shipment of energy and other goods.
