A rare albino buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its distinctive golden-white hair resembling the US president’s signature look has become a national sensation in Bangladesh — and narrowly escaped the slaughterhouse after authorities intervened to halt its sacrifice ahead of Eid al-Adha.
The buffalo, raised on a farm on the outskirts of Dhaka, weighs approximately 700 kilograms and had gone viral on social media for its unusual appearance. Crowds flocked daily to the farm to catch a glimpse and take photographs of the striking animal before Eid.
According to farm owner Ziauddin Murshida, his younger brother gave the buffalo the now-famous nickname after noticing the light-coloured hair on its forehead that bore an uncanny resemblance to Donald Trump’s hairstyle. He described the animal as exceptionally calm and noted that albino buffaloes are extremely rare in Bangladesh.
The buffalo had already been sold to a buyer for sacrifice when Bangladesh’s Ministry of Home Affairs stepped in, instructing officials to block the slaughter, according to local broadcaster Channel 24. The animal was subsequently returned to the farm where it was raised. Authorities did not offer a formal explanation for the decision.
The incident highlights a growing trend in Bangladesh where sacrificial animals are given celebrity names ahead of Eid al-Adha, drawing significant public attention and social media engagement in the days leading up to the festival.
