Parents accuse police of pushing suicide theory

Mir Raza Ali

KARACHI, August 19: The parents of Mir Raza Ali have sought direct monitoring of the investigation into their son’s murder, urging the prime minister, Sindh chief minister and senior police authorities to oversee the case, ARY News reported.

Through their lawyer, the parents submitted a request seeking direct supervision of the investigation. They alleged that the new investigation team was focusing on maintaining the suicide theory instead of looking for new evidence.

According to the request, the original investigation team allegedly presented a false narrative that Mir Raza Ali had died by suicide.

The parents also raised objections over the alleged failure to take action against several senior police officers in connection with the investigation.

They alleged that Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar, Inspector General Sindh and the current investigation team had failed to take necessary action against officers over alleged irregularities in the case.

The parents demanded action against DIG East Farrukh Lanjar and SSP Specialized Investigation Unit Samiullah Somroo.

They also sought action against SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh, SP East Usman Sadozai, SSP Crime Scene Unit Asif Jakhrani and other police officials.

The request also named Ferozabad SHO Adil Afzal, SIO Shabbir Laghari, Gulistan-e-Johar SHO Kamran and Shahrah-e-Faisal DSP Arshad Afridi for alleged negligence in the investigation.

Mir Raza Ali’s parents alleged that evidence was not handled properly and that there were shortcomings in the investigation. They appealed to the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure a transparent investigation into their son’s death.
