Afghanistan name squad for T20Is against India, Zadran to lead

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced their 15-player squad for a home three-match T20I series against India taking place between 13 September and 17 September 2026.

Opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran who is 24-year-old will lead Afghanistan for the first time in an international assignment, he was appointed Afghanistan captain after their failed exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Though it is an official home series for Afghanistan all three T20I are due to take place in Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The series takes place over three days, 1st T20I on 13 September 2026, 2nd T20I on 15 September 2026, 3rd T20I on 17 September 2026.

There are a number of good returning players along with some new faces back in the Afghanistan squad. Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq return after picking up right shoulder stress fracture that saw him miss the T20 World Cup and West Indies series.

All-rounder Gulbadin Naib has also been called up while veteran Rashid Khan remains a key player in the side. Keeping wickets, Noor Rahman was picked due to his strong performance on the domestic front and in the Shpageeza Cricket League and gets his maiden call.

Afghanistan Squad & Reserves

Afghanistan’s 15-member squad led by captain Ibrahim Zadran includes middle order batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz and wicketkeeper batsman Noor Rahman with wicketkeeping duties. Also in the batting department: Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi. In spin include Rashid Khan, Nangyal Kharoti, Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman while bowling would be Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai and fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq.

Reserves for Afghanistan were named as: Ijaz Ahmadzai, Shahidullah Kamal and Fareed Ahmad Malik.
