The traffic police in Punjab have stepped up a crackdown on people riding motorcycles and driving cars without valid driving licences.
Under the law, motorists are required to hold a valid licence to drive a motorcycle or car. Traffic police have said legal action is being taken against those who violate the rules.
The Punjab government has also simplified the process for obtaining a driving licence across the province.
Car driving licence fee
For September 2026, the total fee for a one-year car driving licence has been set at Rs.1,980.
The amount includes: Rs.150 test fee, Rs.1,350 licence fee after passing the test and Rs.480 courier charges
Motorcycle driving licence fee
The total fee for a one-year motorcycle driving licence is Rs.980.
This includes: Rs.50 test fee, Rs.450 fee after passing the test and Rs.480 courier charges.
Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazeer has directed officials across the province to strictly check the driving licences of commercial vehicle drivers.
He said commercial vehicles would not be allowed to operate on Punjab’s roads without valid driving licences.
According to traffic department officials, over 60,000 people were provided with facilities to obtain commercial driving licences across Punjab during the current month.
More than 3,400 regular commercial driving licences have also been issued, a department spokesperson said.
DIG Traffic Nazeer warned that strict action would continue against drivers operating goods and passenger vehicles without licences.
