Ghana — Carlos Queiroz will continue in his role as head coach of the Ghana national football team after stepping down two months ago from overseeing the Black Stars’ World Cup qualification campaign in 2026.
On Thursday the GFA confirmed it had inked another coaching deal with the 73-year-old Portuguese strategist on the back of talks with both the football governing body and the country’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
From Knockout of the World Cup to another Deal
Queiroz originally took charge of the Black Stars in April 2026 following the departure of former Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo. The Black Stars managed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup where they made it to the Round of 32 prior to their elimination in July after they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Colombia at the tournament.
Upon the expiration of the existing short term contract, Queiroz said on social media that the brief chapter was closed for Ghana but the tactician’s tactical know-how and familiarity with the current squad compelled the GFA and the sports ministry not to pass up on him.

”Queiroz’s contract has ended in a few weeks ago. Considering the discussions held with the GFA and the sports ministry on our road map forward, it was decided to allow Carlos Queiroz to start another coaching job,” the GFA released. “The experience of Queiroz internationally gives Ghana confidence in his leading capacity for the future.”
2027 AFCON Qualification Campaign and beyond
Queiroz has had to adjust his priorities with Ghana entering into the qualification stages of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations games in late September, where there’s a demanding fixture schedule of two games:
