The Blood of Dawnwalker, a highly anticipated game from Polish studio Rebel Wolves, is already a huge success. Their debut title launched on September 3 for PC and current-gen consoles. By September 5, it had sold over 1 million copies worldwide.
The official @DawnwalkerGame X account announced this sales milestone about two days after the global launch. Most of these sales came from console players. Estimates from PlayTracker, Gamalytic, and VG Insights show that Steam had about 308,900 sales, so PC players made up just under a third of the total.
This suggests that PlayStation likely had the biggest share of sales. For example, the PS Store page showed over 3,800 reviews yesterday afternoon, while the Xbox Store had only 277 reviews at the same time.
Overall, the game has received very positive reviews from both critics and players. It quickly earned an average score of 85 and a 93% recommendation rate on OpenCritic. This puts the RPG among the top 7% of the platform’s highest-rated games, based on 103 reviews. Reviewers highlighted the game’s story, rich vampire lore, and replay value.
The game also hit a peak of 70,692 concurrent players on Steam. About 80% of its nearly 10,000 Steam reviews are positive. There is a small difference between the Steam and OpenCritic scores, likely because the PC version had more issues at launch than the console versions.
Right now, PC players are dealing with stuttering in windowed and borderless modes, crashes during shader compilation, and no option to remap PS5 controller buttons. Rebel Wolves has shared official workarounds for these issues and promised that permanent fixes are coming soon.
This early success is very important for Rebel Wolves. The studio is made up of many veteran developers who worked on ‘The Witcher 3’. They see this debut game as just the first chapter in a new vampire franchise. The team plans to set future games in different places and time periods.
With this strong commercial momentum, publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has good reason to approve future sequels. If they haven’t already, fans can expect more from The Blood of Dawnwalker universe.
