PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday heard a petition, seeking olive plantation along motorways.

The high court bench after arguments of lawyers on the petition reserved its verdict.

Earlier, petitioner’s lawyer said that various trees have been planted at vacant space along the motorway, suggesting plantation of olive trees on the motorway, “which also have a positive impact on the environment”.

“Planting olive trees would also boost the economy,” petitioner’s lawyer Rehmanullah Shah said. “Pakistan has now entered in countries exporting olive oil,” lawyer said.

Additional Advocate General KP in his arguments said that the provincial government has planted trees under the ‘Billion Tree Tsunami” project under which olive trees have also been planted. AAG Bilal Khan said that the provincial government encourages all environment friendly measures.
