KARACHI: Post-mortem examinations of five members of a family found dead in a flat in Ahsanabad have been completed, with no signs of torture or injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon found on the bodies, the police surgeon said.
Police Surgeon Dr Samia said samples from different parts of the bodies had been sent to a laboratory for chemical examination.
She said the final cause of death would be determined after the chemical examination report.
The deceased included doctor Umar, his wife and their three children.
A neighbour told police that the family had moved into the flat in February 2024 and was facing financial difficulties. He said they had also opened a clinic in the area, but it could not succeed.
The neighbour said the family had recently faced an incident, adding that police were informed after a strong foul smell came from the flat.
Meanwhile, police officials said contact had been established with doctor Umar’s brother Abu Bakr and his father-in-law, who are in Punjab. The bodies will be handed over to the family after they arrive in Karachi.
Earlier, police had recovered the bodies after breaking open the door of the flat following information from neighbours. The bodies of the husband, wife and three children were found in the same room.
The Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the location and the bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.
