ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has reacted to the controversy between Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar and senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon, ARY News reported.
Tarar said Captain (retd) Safdar is a respectable person but is neither a lawyer nor a member of the bar.
“Captain (retd) Safdar should stay away from bar elections and bar-related matters,” the law minister said.
He described Ahsan Bhoon as a respectable person and said he enjoys great respect among the legal fraternity.
Tarar said Bhoon’s group had lost only one or two elections over the past 10 years.
“The remarks made about Ahsan Bhoon during the election period are a cheap stunt,” Tarar said.
He added that people should exercise control over their language whenever they appear on the media.
“On the media, one should speak carefully and truthfully. I will not say anything beyond this,” Tarar said.
The controversy follows remarks by Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar regarding the Supreme Court Bar Association elections and the credentials of some lawyers.
Safdar had questioned the law degree of one of the presidential candidates and called for its verification. He also called for the verification of the degrees of some senior lawyers, including Ahsan Bhoon.
Safdar also announced the formation of his own group, the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Group, and said it would participate in the SCBA elections.
