ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan is likely to reduce petrol and diesel prices today, ARY News reported.
After a three-day gap, petroleum product prices will be determined today, with further relief expected for September 29.
The price of high-speed diesel is likely to decrease by Rs3.55 per litre, while petrol may become cheaper by Rs1.37 per litre.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will determine the new prices tonight.
The government has the authority to reduce or further increase petroleum prices by making changes to taxes.
Meanwhile the government has introducted Petrol Relief Scheme to help general public.
Under the Petrol Relief Scheme, motorcycle and Cingchi rickshaw owners get a Rs.100 per litre discount on up to 20 litres of petrol per month.
Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc are eligible for discounted petrol of up to 30 litres per month.
How to register
To register for the discounted petrol, applicants should send an SMS containing the following information to 9771: citizens write REG, CNIC number, Vehicle registration number, First word of the province name and Vehicle registration date.
Once registration is completed, applicants will receive a confirmation message on their mobile phone.
How to obtain the petrol token
Before visiting a petrol station, applicants should send TOK to 9771.
They will then receive a token number by SMS. The token number should be presented at the petrol station to claim the discounted petrol.
A confirmation message will be sent after the transaction is completed.
