A deep-sea search operation will be carried out to retrieve the aircraft’s black box and locate its wreckage. The government has informed the cargo plane company’s owners about the details of the planned operation.
The company will bear 50 per cent of the expenses for recovering the black box and locating the wreckage.
Signals from the aircraft’s black box stopped about a month after the crash. The Pakistan Navy had used specialised equipment to locate the black box deep underwater.
The government is seeking international expertise to support the recovery operation and search for the aircraft’s wreckage in the deep sea.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation is continuing its probe into the crash. Investigators have carried out an aerial assessment of the sea area near Ormara, where the aircraft went down.
Sources said the investigation team examined how the aircraft crashed into the sea from a significant altitude while returning from Sharjah to Karachi. The team has also completed an initial review of the aircraft’s available records as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators have examined the recovered wreckage of the K2 Airways aircraft, along with items found in the bag of crew member engineer Hamid.
Authorities are also considering seeking assistance from international specialist companies to locate the aircraft’s engines, flight recorder (black box) and crew members in the deep sea, sources said.
The aircraft crashed into the sea near Ormara on July 7 while returning from Sharjah to Karachi, resulting in its destruction. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
