ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will constitutionally end after six months and the provincial government will be restored.

Speaking on ARY News programme On My Radar, the federal minister said governor’s rule and an emergency were in place across the province. He said governor’s rule could not be extended beyond six months and the provincial assembly would be restored after that period, while the emergency would remain in place until terrorism was eliminated.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry urged the opposition to convene an all-parties conference (APC) against the imposition of an emergency and invite the government to explain its position.

He said political leaders should come together on issues where there was no disagreement. The minister added that the government had not yet been contacted regarding an APC.

“If invited, I will personally explain the reasons for imposing an emergency and governor’s rule,” he said.

The federal minister said the government remained ready to resolve all issues with the opposition through dialogue.

He alleged that PTI leaders spoke about negotiations in the media but avoided giving clear responses when invited for talks. He also claimed there was no single leader within PTI who enjoyed the consensus of the entire party.

Responding to a question, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said details of contacts with opposition figures could not be disclosed publicly.

He confirmed that talks with PTI were taking place, adding that some details had been shared with the media while others remained confidential. He said PTI should continue cooperating with the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
