The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that a domestic electricity connection cannot be disconnected to recover outstanding dues owed by an industrial unit.
Justice Jawad Hassan issued the ruling while disposing of a petition filed by Ghazi Khan, who had challenged the disconnection of his household electricity supply over unpaid dues linked to an industrial unit.
The court directed the relevant authorities to resolve the matter in accordance with the law after giving all parties, including the petitioner, an opportunity to be heard.
LHC ordered to decide matter within two weeks and that a reasoned order be issued.
The court also barred the authorities from taking any disciplinary action against the petitioner in the meantime.
The Lahore High Court held that disconnecting a domestic electricity connection based on outstanding industrial dues was not legally justified.
