ISLAMABAD: The government in a backdoor contact, requested to the People’s Party for extending cooperation in legislation, refuted by the party, sources said.

PPP sources said that the government sought the party’s cooperation at standing committees’ level for legislation. “The People’s Party replied that it will not extend support to government in the parliament,” sources said.

The PPP told the government that its non-cooperation policy will continue, and the government bills will not be supported in standing committees, as well as in the Senate and the National Assembly, party sources said.

The PPP parliamentarians have been clearly directed not to support a government legislation with a warning of punitive action against the members who will vote for a government bill, according to sources.

“People’s Party will not vote for Islamabad local government system legislation bill,” sources further said.

Sources said that the government facing difficulties due to the PPP’s withdrawal of cooperation in parliament, which forced it deferring the Wapda legislation in the water resources committee.
