KARACHI: A woman was beaten by local residents after she was seen leaving a young child near a garbage dump in Mahmoodabad’s Liaquat Ashraf Colony in Karachi, police said.
According to police, local women chased and surrounded the woman after witnessing her leave the child near the garbage dump. Police teams from Mahmoodabad and Madadgar 15 also reached the scene after receiving information about the incident.
Residents initially suspected that the woman had kidnapped the child and left him near the garbage dump out of fear of being caught. However, police investigation later established that the child belonged to the woman.
Police said the woman was taken to the police station along with the child for questioning. Her husband and other family members subsequently reached the station.
According to Mahmoodabad Station House Officer (SHO), the woman’s husband told police that she was not mentally well.
The SHO said the child had been left at a place where he could have been seriously harmed or even died.
After the family arrived, police resolved the matter and handed the child back to the woman. The family was advised to arrange medical treatment for her.
Police said the matter was disposed of after the family’s intervention and no further action was taken.
