ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to launch a sub-national anti-polio campaign across the country from September 21 to September 27, ARY News reported.
The special anti-polio drive will cover 115 districts nationwide, with the government setting a target to vaccinate 30.1 million children.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8.3 million children across 37 districts will be administered polio drops. Meanwhile, a target has been set to vaccinate 2.3 million children in Balochistan.
As many as 10 million children aged five years and under will be vaccinated against polio across 30 districts of Sindh.
Furthermore, a whopping 10.6 million children will receive the vaccine across 13 districts in Punjab.
In Islamabad, the target is to vaccinate 447,000 children, while 137,000 children will be vaccinated across two districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Karachi, the sub-national anti-polio drive will run in the Central, East, West, South, Keamari, Korangi, and Malir districts.
Sewage water samples from 35 districts have tested positive for the polio virus, with a total of 128 environmental samples across the country confirming the virus so far this year.
Three polio cases have surfaced nationwide thus far, compared to 21 cases that emerged last year.
