KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday reserved decision after arguments of lawyers over petitions related to a dispute about allotment of an official residence to former president Dr Arif Alvi as the post-presidency entitlement.
Dr Alvi filed a petition and claimed entitlement to the house under the President’s Pension Act, 1947, contending that after completion of tenure in the presidency, he was allotted the house in question as his official residence for lifetime.
Former president has been unable to obtain possession as the allotted house located in Bath Island remained occupied by a former government employee Dr Shahab Imam.
In the second petition, Dr Shahb Imam had impugned the cancellation of his retention/allotment of the same house and contended that he had allowed retention of accommodation after voluntary retirement upon completion of qualifying service under the Finance Division in 1991 which was duly approved by the competent authorities.
“The former president already have many residences, and he is not in the need of this house,” former government official said. “He could also be allotted a residence in Islamabad,” Shahab Imam argued.
The bench after arguments of counsels over petitions related to the allotment dispute, reserved its verdict in the case.
