ISLAMABAD: All government hospitals in Islamabad have been placed on high alert at the direction of the Ministry of Health amid a series of long marches toward the capital by various political parties, starting today with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) marching from Karachi to Islamabad, ARY News reported.
The Ministry of Health issued a circular instructing Polyclinic Hospital to remain on high alert until further notice.
The hospital has completed special duty arrangements to handle any emergency in the capital, and doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff have been directed not to leave the city.
Dr. Tanveer Afsar has been appointed as the focal person for the hospital during the emergency.
Additionally, the hospital has been directed to maintain a stock of 100 blood units in its blood bank, ensure sufficient supplies of medicines, medical equipment, and oxygen, and keep its ambulance fleet operational and ready at all times.
As part of the emergency plan, 20 beds have been reserved for men and women in the emergency ward, while two beds have been set aside in the officer ward for critical situations.
It is worth noting that JI has started its march from Karachi toward Islamabad under the leadership of its party chief, Engr.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman. The party has been demanding that the government abolish the petroleum levy, describing it as extortion, after having held a protest sit-in for over a month.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a long march demanding the release of its founding chairman and incarcerated former prime minister, Imran Khan.
