ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Kisan Ittehad on Tuesday said that the wheat harvesting nears but the government has yet to unveil its policy for the crop.
Talking to media Chairman Pakistan Kisan Ittehad, Khalid Khokhar, said that Punjab farmers have cultivated 16 percent more sugarcane this year. He advised the government to keep sugar stocks for consumption up to November and export remaining stocks.
“What will happen of the farmers if sugarcane growers suffer losses,” he questioned.
“We don’t want subsidy but a legitimate and justified price of our crops,” farmers leader said.
“Pakistan is the only country of the world where sugarcane and wheat crops are subjects of politics,” Khokhar lamented.
“We have now changed the mode of our protest, now we don’t need to hit the roads”, he said. “Farmers will reduce cultivation of their crops,” he added.
