Islamabad police social media policy

Islamabad police has issued a new social media policy imposing restrictions on the use of social media by officers and personnel across all ranks.

Under the new policy, police personnel have been barred from making videos or taking photographs while wearing their uniforms.

The policy strictly prohibits the use of police uniforms for personal promotion, publicity, fame or glamour. Personnel will also face departmental action for making videos in uniform at government vehicles, offices or private locations.

Police officers and personnel have also been barred from giving statements to the media, speaking at public forums or writing articles without prior permission.

Under the policy, police personnel cannot express their personal, political or religious views on social media.

The sharing of any departmental or classified documents, photographs or other sensitive material on social media has also been prohibited.

Even positive activities of the police department cannot be highlighted on social media without prior approval from the DIG Headquarters.

According to the policy, information regarding police activities will only be released through the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO).

Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of personnel under their command.

The Islamabad Police chief has ordered strict departmental action against those found violating the new social media policy.

The policy has been approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and will take effect immediately.
