The index had closed previously at 163,924.32 and traded between an intraday high of 163,966.86 and a low of 162,292.44.
Trading activity in the regular market increased, with turnover rising to 398,942,840 shares from 367,094,331 shares in the previous session.
The traded value climbed to Rs.18,203,131,710 from Rs.17,998,134,624 previously.
However, market capitalization declined to Rs. 18,014,203,595,525 from Rs. 18,173,362,705,776 in the previous session.
In the ready market, 136 companies advanced, 311 declined and 48 remained unchanged, out of a total of 495 companies.
