LAHORE: Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Masood Mukhtar has taken notice of delays in the delivery of Punjab Excise Department vehicle registration cards and set a 15-day timeframe for their delivery after printing.
The development follows a report published in The Business regarding delays in the issuance and delivery of registration cards and the resulting backlog.
Speaking about the progress, Secretary ET&NC Masood Mukhtar said significant headway had been made in resolving the issue following a meeting held last week with Pakistan Post officials.
He said approximately 20,000 to 25,000 registration cards are currently pending and have been forwarded to the concerned directors for distribution. The distribution process is scheduled to begin next week.
Given the sensitive nature of the registration cards, the Secretary said special precautionary measures would be adopted throughout the distribution process.
According to Masood Mukhtar, Pakistan Post has so far delivered approximately 70,000 to 80,000 registration cards, while bookings for a further 200,000 cards have been completed.
He said a 15-day deadline had been set for delivery of registration cards to the Pakistan Post Office after printing, with efforts underway to ensure that cards reach the relevant recipients within the stipulated period.
The Secretary further said the registration card delivery process was being monitored through regular progress reports to ensure timely distribution and accountability.
He added that the backlog of all pending registration cards would be cleared by mid-October.
