ANKARA, — Students at a school in Ankara’s Kecioren district took part in a special event on Wednesday titled “Don’t Bring Down the Kites, Leave the Sky for the Children,” held in solidarity with children in Gaza.
The event aimed to inform students about the situation in Gaza and highlight the importance of peace and safety for children, organisers said. Students flew kites and carried banners describing kites as symbols of the sky, freedom and a safe life for children.
The activity was held on the instructions of Turkey’s Ministry of National Education as part of a campaign in schools across the country to raise students’ awareness of conditions facing children in Gaza. According to the ministry’s directive, such activities are intended to build awareness of global humanitarian issues among students.
The central message of the event was that the sky should be a place for children to play and dream, not a symbol of war and fear.
