LAHORE: Chairman of the Carpet Training Institute (CTI), Ijaz-ur-Rehman, has emphasized that the adoption of modern technology and digital platforms in the traditional handmade carpet industry can open new avenues for access to global markets.
He stressed that manufacturers and exporters must quickly adapt to rapidly changing global trends, adding that efforts are underway to further expand the institute’s platform in this regard.
In his statement, Ijaz-ur-Rehman highlighted that high-quality images, videos, and compelling storytelling about the background and craftsmanship of products play a crucial role in building buyer trust. He urged stakeholders to actively utilize social media platforms, noting that short videos on platforms like TikTok showcasing the carpet-making process can attract younger buyers, while Facebook Marketplace and live sessions can help boost direct sales.
He further stated that artificial intelligence can be leveraged to analyze global market trends, assist in designing products according to consumer preferences, and help in selecting suitable color schemes. He also underscored the importance of virtual showrooms, which can particularly encourage women to purchase handmade carpets.
Ijaz-ur-Rehman pointed out that simple and minimalist designs, along with light and neutral colors, are gaining popularity in the global market. However, demand for traditional patterns presented in a modern style remains strong.
Despite increasing global competition, he maintained that Pakistani carpets can strengthen their position in international markets through improved digital skills, enhanced quality, and consistent standards.
