Rockstar Games has responded to the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) leaks in an internal message to staff. As fans continue to explore gameplay footage shared online by a hacker identified as Cyberleek, the development team is focusing on the planned official announcement.
A recent Bloomberg report noted that a senior Rockstar Games executive sent an internal email criticizing the data breach and its impact on the company.
The executive recognized the frustration felt throughout the studio but assured the team that the breach would not detract from the ongoing work on the anticipated sequel.
Developers are reportedly feeling both disappointed and frustrated. After a major data breach in 2022, Rockstar ended remote work and implemented stricter security measures.
Many employees are frustrated that, even after giving up remote work and working under tight deadlines, confidential gameplay footage still appeared online.
The hacker, Cyberleek, has said their actions are meant to support consumers and physical game releases. However, the unauthorized sharing of the game has led the studio’s parent company to pursue legal action.
Take-Two Interactive has filed federal subpoenas directed at Microsoft and Discord as part of its efforts to identify the leaker.
The publisher is seeking user data, linked accounts, and internal records to help identify anyone connected to the Cyberleek account. So far, no official identification has been made.
Former developers note that, despite the attention online, most people in the wider gaming community are still unaware of the leaked footage.

These unauthorized clips are not expected to harm the game’s commercial performance or impact future pre-orders.
Rockstar is moving forward despite the controversy. The studio is continuing with its planned marketing campaign, which begins with the Netflix special, GTA 6: An Extended Look, set for August 27.
Once the official gameplay is released, the expectation inside the studio is that the leaked Cyberleek footage will soon be forgotten.
